The new Prime drink is not as healthy as it seems.

Prime Drink May Not be as Healthy as Advertised

March 15, 2023

Two content creators Logan Paul and KSI from YouTube recently launched a hydration and sports nutrition drink called Prime. Their drink is wildly popular throughout the U.S.

But is it actually good for you? Is it better then Gatorade and other sports drinks or does it contain addictive ingredients?

Prime is marketed as a healthier Gatorade alternative sports drink. It was launched in early 2022 and gained rapid traction in the UK and US. There are currently 7 flavors of prime drinks. All contain 20 calories, no added sugars, and are made with 10% coconut water. They also contain 250 mg of BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids), electrolytes, and some antioxidants.

One of the main reasons why it is so popular is because it contains much less sugar than Gatorade and as a result contains far fewer calories. However, there are also unhealthy ingredients in prime. The drink ingredients include citric acid, which can increase inflammation, sucralose, and acesulfame potassium.

Prime also has sucralose as a listed ingredient. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener shown to negatively affect insulin levels, acesulfame potassium is another sweetener found to adverse effects on the gut and brain.

As far as taste, it tastes good, but it is very sweet. Although it claims to have no added sugars it is still important to note that it has artificial sweeteners.

When choosing prime or any sports drink you should be careful even if the nutrition facts may seem likeable to you. Prime contains artificial sweeteners and other additives, which are not good for you. Not everything you drink can be healthy for you, especially if you are an athlete. You might be better off drinking water. Make sure to read the ingredients and see what is really in what you are putting in your body.
